Connecting your devices
How do my iPhone and Mac find each other?
If both are signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Keychain turned on, and both are on the same Wi-Fi, open GrabPaste on each one. They connect by themselves; the first time can take a minute or two while iCloud Keychain syncs.
How do I connect a device on a different Apple Account?
Pair it once with a code. On one device, open Settings › Devices › Pair a Device and follow the steps on both screens. After that, the two devices recognize each other automatically.
My devices can't see each other
- Check both are on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest and public networks often block devices from seeing each other.
- Allow Local Network access. iPhone: Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › GrabPaste. Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › GrabPaste.
- Turn off any VPN for a moment, or allow local network traffic in its settings.
- Open GrabPaste on both devices. On iPhone it needs to be open on screen to send or receive.
How many devices can I connect?
On Free, you can send to 1 other device. Pro removes the limit.
On iPhone
How do I turn on the GrabPaste keyboard?
- Open Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards.
- Tap Add New Keyboard and choose GrabPaste.
- Tap GrabPaste and turn on Allow Full Access. The keyboard needs this to read your clipboard history on this iPhone. It never uses the network.
- In any app, hold the globe key and pick GrabPaste. Tap a clip to insert it.
Why doesn't GrabPaste save what I copy on iPhone automatically?
iOS doesn't let apps read the clipboard in the background. On iPhone, GrabPaste saves your clipboard when you tap Paste in the app, run the "Save Clipboard to GrabPaste" shortcut, or share something to it with the Share button. Everything you receive from your other devices is saved too.
The keyboard shows "Turn on Full Access"
Go to Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › GrabPaste and turn on Allow Full Access, then switch to the keyboard again.
On Mac
⌃⌥V doesn't open the shelf
Turn GrabPaste on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring. If you see an old "GestureDrop" or a second "GrabPaste" there, remove it with the – button first. If the switch is on but the shortcut still doesn't work, quit and reopen GrabPaste.
Picking a clip copies it but doesn't paste
To paste into the app you're using, GrabPaste needs Accessibility access: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility › GrabPaste. Without it, GrabPaste copies the clip and you press ⌘V yourself.
How do I paste as plain text?
Press ⇧↩ on a clip in the shelf, or choose Paste as Plain Text from the clip's menu.
How does the Paste Stack work?
Press ⌘⇧S on clips in the shelf to add them to the stack, or turn on Collect every copy. Then press ⌃⌥⌘V in any app to paste the next item, in the order you added them.
How do I stop GrabPaste from saving something?
Pause capture for 5 minutes, an hour or until you resume, from the shelf, the menu bar icon or Settings. Copies from password managers are never saved.
Gestures
How do grab and drop work?
Turn on gestures in Settings › Gestures and allow camera access. In front of the device that has the clip, close your hand to grab it. In front of the other device, open your hand to drop it there. Both devices need GrabPaste open and must be connected.
My hand isn't detected
Make sure your whole hand is in view of the camera, with your palm facing it, in reasonable light. You can adjust sensitivity in Settings › Gestures. The camera is used only on your device; video is never saved or sent.
Pro and purchases
What does Free include, and what does Pro add?
Free keeps the last 7 days of history (pinned clips are kept forever), 1 other device and 3 pinboards. Pro removes those limits. Pro is $2.99 a month, $24.99 a year, or $59.99 once, in the US; the App Store shows your local price.
How does the 14-day trial work?
Start it from Settings › Pro. It asks for no payment details and never turns into a paid subscription. After 14 days, GrabPaste goes back to Free and reminds you two days before. Each Apple Account can use the trial once.
What happens to my clips if I go back to Free?
Nothing is deleted. Clips older than 7 days are hidden until you get Pro again, and pinned clips stay visible.
I bought Pro but the app shows Free
Open Settings › Pro › Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. Pro works on every iPhone and Mac signed in to that account, and with Family Sharing.
How do I cancel my subscription?
On iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › GrabPaste Pro. On Mac: App Store › your name › Account Settings › Subscriptions. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Your data
Where is my history stored?
Only on your devices, in GrabPaste's own storage. Nothing is uploaded to a server. See the privacy policy for the details.
How do I delete my history?
Delete single clips from their menu, or erase everything in Settings › Privacy › Delete All History. Deleting the app also deletes its data from that device.
Can I see the setup guide again?
Yes: Settings › About › Setup Guide.
